Which type of wire mesh is better for your needs as far as security is concerned: welded or woven? Both types of fencing have their pros and cons, and this is what we will explore in today's blog.
Firstly, let's define the two types of wire mesh. What is welded wire mesh? In short, welded wire mesh is created when two layers of wire are placed at right angles to each other and welded together at the intersection. This creates a very strong intersection, one that cannot be unraveled when cut, making it very durable.
Welded wire mesh, or welded wire fabric, or "weldmesh" is an electric fusion welded prefabricated joined grid consisting of a series of parallel longitudinal wires with accurate spacing welded to cross wires at the required spacing.

The welded wire mesh is a metal wire screen that is made up of low carbon steel wire or stainless steel wire. It is available in various sizes and shapes. It is widely used in agricultural, industrial, transportation, horticultural and food procuring sectors. It is also used in mines, gardening, machine protection and other decorations.
Weld mesh is the term given to the kind of barrier fencing that is manufactured in square, rectangular or rhombus mesh from steel wire, welded at each intersection.
Welded wire fabric (WWF) is also sometimes used in reinforced concrete, notably for slabs.
Or, woven mesh is exactly what it sounds like. Two layers of wire are woven together, one below the other. As a result, their intersection is much more flexible than that of welded mesh. However, this flexibility is also a weakness. If cut, the intersections will quickly fall apart because they are simply woven together, not welded together. Braiding is similar to chain linking in this respect.

Which type of fence is preferable for a security barrier: welded, woven or chain link? The answer is clearly welded. Any robotic parts or projectiles would have difficulty passing through the rigid intersection of a welded fence, whereas a woven fence has too many concessions. It is also possible to create a welded fence with a smaller opening, thus reducing the space for debris to fly out.
For safety reasons, welding is preferable for several reasons. Using woven or chain link fencing, flexibility allows for easier climbing surfaces. The more wires there are, the easier it is to grab them and pry them into a grippable handle.
Welded fences are completely inflexible and have smaller openings that may be difficult to climb. These smaller grids are also ideal for data centre security. Anyone looking to steal data and information will not be able to get past the fence around the data centre computers.
When planning your storage unit, your main concern should be durability and versatility. Between welding and weaving, your choice is simple. If you want the things you store and the storage units that hold them to last, then welded wire mesh is the way to go.
With strong crosses and inflexible openings, welded wire is more durable and will stand the test of time better than woven or wire fencing. In terms of versatility, welded fencing is easier to modify on site than woven or chain link fencing. If you are installing equipment in a garage or basement and need to work around pipes or similar obstructions, welded fencing can be cut and formed around the object without damaging the integrity of the wire.
This is not to say that woven wire fencing is not as good as welded under certain conditions. In some cases you may need a flexible fence that will bounce back when something hits it, and woven or chain link fencing is certainly preferable to welded wire fencing. However, welded wire fencing is almost always a viable method when it comes to safety, security and storage.
